This is a 2-part question. We have a small network (20 users) and would like to host our own web site and e-mail server. We currently have an NT SBS 4.5 server and a DSL circuit with 2 private IP addresses (the DSL provider’s network) mapped to public IP address (registered with Internic). The server has 2 NICs, one to our internal IP (the LAN’s IP scheme), the other set to the external IP (private IP from DSL provider). It?s NT SBS 4.5 so the server is running Proxy 2.0, Exchange 5.5 and IIS 4.0 as well as the rest of the standard BackOffice fare. DNS server is not installed but could be if needed. We are using the DSL’s DNS for now. The DSL provider is setting up our public IP addresses for mycompany.com and mail.mycompany.com with Internic. General web browsing works. IMS and POP3 connectors are installed in Exchange for our old dial-up ISP. These will be removed if needed when the time is right (Internic domain transfer takes a while). The general plan is to setup our corporate site on one IP and Exchange on the other.
Q. 1: What / how do I configure Exchange 5.5 to be our Internet mail server?
Q. 2: Even though I have the default web site IP set to unassigned and the mycompany.com site set to the private IP mapped to the public IP, entering the private IP still brings up the default web site. What gives?
