Hostname issue

by brianaaa12 . Updated 21 years, 9 months ago

I have a Mandrake 10.1 box running as a firewall using iptables/shorewall. It has two NIC’s. eth0 is hooked to my cable modem and gets its config via dhcp. eth1 is static and connected to my local switch.

My problem is, even though eth1 is static, this box shows up with the ISP assigned hostname when I browse it (its running Samba) from a windows box or connect to it via Webmin.

Short and sweet, I don’t want DHCP from the cable modem dictating this box’s hostname.

I’ve already edit the /etc/hostname file and its set the way I want it. Since I access it locally via eth1, Im stumpped as to why its reporting eth0’s hostname. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Brian
