Hostname

by awebb2 . Updated 23 years, 10 months ago

I am running Linux Redhat 7.3 on a laptop. I
also have a network with a W2K Server. Can I let
this Linux laptop join the Windows Domain (I
dont want to use Samba).

The file below has the following entry.

file:/etc/sysconfig/network

*************************************************
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=localhost.localdomain

*************************************************

Suppose the domain on my W2K network is named
mydomain. Can I change the Hostname entry above
to localhost.mydomain without crashing the linux
system?

I plan to make the change to the hostname above
and set the correct TCP/IP settings on the linux
box to reflect the subnetmask, gateway, and DNS
address of my W2K server, and then enter the
computer name (ie. localhost) in Active
Directory on W2K server.

Should I be able to log on to the W2k network
from the linux laptop?
