How can i boost speed for my remote connection

We recently implemented an ERP system in some of our offices in africa with a remote server in Dubai and the biggest challenge has been speed. We access the ERP through a remote VPN connection and the ERP is published in a citrix server. Trouble is, connection to the outside world from these sides is Via satellite, no fibre and the latency is so high. Anyone with an idea how i can overcome the latency issue?
