how do I maintain hyperlinks in excel files when moving files

I plan on re-organizing my files in Windows XP, but I have 100’s of excel files hyperlinked to other excel, word etc files. Is there any way that I can reorganize the files without breaking these links? I know that LinkFixer plus software would work, but we can not afford it.
