How to recover from a .pst file damaged after recovery from deletion

Guys, I accidentally deleted my .pst file. I recovered it from the external hard disk using Easy Recovery Professional, but apparently the recovered file is damaged as Outlook does not recognize it as a .pst file.
I’v tried the Scanpst.exe (inbox repair tool) on it as well but it gives me the error that it does not recognize the file.
Now the file is shown as an Office data file in Windows explorer, so thats good.
Help me out here! How can i recover my e-mails?
