I lost my sound !

Please help,I lost my sound. While instaling a childs program on my machine Ilost my sound. I imediatly uninstaled the program,but,didn’t regain my sound. Checked system (device manager).opti plug-n-play sound. Conclusion- this device is causing a resource conflict (15). Tried changing drivers ,get,this is the best driver for your system. Can’t change drivers . Changed inpout outpout setings,lower,got thair is no conflicts. still no sound. the device driver is four years old. Would thair bea better driver available? Is my sound card shout?(I have had a preveous problem with this device.) Please help,I need my sound.
