I just started my first job as a Network Administrator. I’m a lucky “Paper MCP (NT 4)”. I am working for a non-profit organization running a simple TCP/IP network of 177 computers (300+ users). The Auth. Server is Netware 3.1 and the clients are mostly ancient pre-pentium Win95, with some 98, NT, and 2000 Prof. We want to bring the website and email in-house (we have a T-1). We are going to migrate the Server to W2K at some point (I’ll take some tips on that one also). I want to know if we should get a single solution appliance that will run the website and email, one that may work with our existing network, or should we upgrade to W2K and set-up the Website using IIS, and Email using Exchange? If so, which version of W2K Server would be best? I know we can get some discounted software from MS and $$$$ is a HUGE factor in our decision. I personally would like to get my hands dirty with the MS solutions, but the cost of licensing and the learning curve (for me) may be a problem. Any suggestions and insight will be greatly appreciated.
I am researching this also myself, but thought I would post here first BEFORE I got bogged down with thousands of piece-meal bits of information from the books and internet.
