PROBLEM: ICS clients cannot connect to websites (or ping by domain name or IP address) unless a user is logged on to the Host XP machine running ICS. If the logon screen is displayed on XP host, no clients have internet connectivity. SOmeone logs into XP Host and then all clients can make internet connections.
SCENARIO:
Starband satellite connection. XP has 2 NICs. Using Linksys router/switch to connect computers. Have configured Linksys to disable DHCP. Set it’s internal IP to 192.168.1.1. Set it’s external IP to static at 192.168.1.2. Set everything else on Linksys (DNS, gateway, …) also to 192.168.1.2. Purpose of doing so was to in effect disable the router portion of Linksys and use it as just a switch. XP ICS uses 192.168.0.x.
Should clients be able to make connections when Host is booted but not logged on? If so, why can’t mine?
