Internet Email Naming Standard

I would like to implement the following email naming standard for our company:

firstname.lastname@debtco.com

Is this a popular naming standard for email? Management wants proof that its a good standard and has no issues. What are the pros andcons of this naming convention?

Could you please point me in the right direction for articles or information that will help me with this issue. I would like to present the info. to the managers.

Right now they want to use email names like egogue001@debtco.com…
