Is there a Virus that Deletes Outlook PST files?

by kieranbuckley . Updated 21 years, 7 months ago

Hi, All:

For the second time, all of my Outlook XP PST files on another partition have been deleted (along with other files in that same folder!).

I’ve been a good doobie and was archiving my messages to PSTs. I created several, on a separate partition this time – and on a completely different physical drive the first time. There are also several smaller PSTs in the Outlook application folder that I don’t really care much about, but it was easier to organize.

Last night, my partition was suddenly a couple of GB lighter! All of the PSTs I had created in a separate partition were deleted, along with other files. All of these PSTs and files were at the root level of the partition. But the PSTs in the Outlook application folder are still there!!!

I’ve patched and scanned and firewalled and searched, and I can’t find any explanation of why this is happening. Of course, as soon as I start a search with the words Virus and Outlook, I get billions and billions of returns! I can’t figure out how to narrow the search, and I’ve never heard of this particular variant before.

HELP PLEASE!!

Thanks,
Kieran
