Laptop Screen Freezing

Like several other threads here I am regularly experiencing a total screen freeze on my HP nx9420 Laptop (3GB Ram, 100GB HDD, XP Pro SP 2). It only seems to happen when using MSIE or a Torrent file download. I think MSIE issues only occur when running soemthing that uses Java (observation only). My Java Version is 1.6.0 (build 1.6.0_02-b05). I have tried updating all drivers (nic, wireless, video etc) to latest versions, clearing Java cache – all to no avail 🙁

Have also updated drivers, settings etc on my adsl modems but the problem occurs in both locations. I would welcome any tips please?
