lmhost and subnets

Presently all lmhost files look like this:
101.XX.XX.1 “1234567890 /0x1b” #PRE
101.XX.XX.1 pdc #PRE #DOM:1234567890
101.XX.XX.2 MS exchange #PRE #DOM:1234567890
101.xx.xx.3 Application server
Would like some suggestion to increase response time between the two locations? The remote site does not have a BDC? I do not use WINS. What can I do the lmhost file to make communication for the server easier (faster)?
