lmhosts entries changed by themselves

I have a win2000 pro client that connects to an NT4 server. It updates the lmhosts file during the login script but on the client machine, the domain #pre settings changes the case of the domain from all upper case to all lower. This causes problems with the machine as it can no longer contact the domain to change passwords etc. The file on the server is fine. Any ideas?
