LMHOSTS file not being read.

A Workstation on my network, runnning Windows XP Pro, is totally ignoring the entries in the LMHOSTS file. As a result, I cannot connect to a particular server by name. Can ping the server by IP address, but not by name. This is the only workstation on our network experiencing this problem (so far). How do I fix this problem? Thanks.
