Local host as a router?????

by vigo98 . Updated 24 years, 5 months ago

Is it possible (andif it is how?) to modify the local routing table on a win2k pc, so that it starts acting as a router for itself.

Here is what I mean:
1.I have a LAN connection to some servers and from the LAN connection I don’t have access tothe Internet (blocked by firewalls)
2. When I need the Internet I can VPN to another network, but then I loose the connection to the servers, for the time I’m connected to VPN.
3. Route command shows me that after VPN is astablished my default gateway becomes a gateway on VPN network. I can still ping the gateway on the LAN, but no traffic goes through it.
4. So to fx that (unfortunatley, I can’t modify firewall rules) I was thinking of making my PC a gateway for itself and modifing the routing table so that correct traffic goes to the right IP based on subnet.

So Please if you know how to make this work let me know.
Thanks,
Victor

P.S. Hope the above explains the situation. If not let me know.
