ok…so a couple of weeks ago, my teenage son managed to get our desktop computer severely infected with a virus/trojan…
i spent an entire day cleaning the system and finally got it working again, except for a few problems that i’ve noticed…
first…my mouse freezes…this was happening before the infection and continues to happen now…the mouse just freezes and won’t work until i disconnect it, shut down, reconnect it and reboot….then after a little while, it freezes again and i have to go through that all over again…
second…i can’t change the user accounts from administrator to limited…
third…i can’t install/uninstall some programs…for example, i can’t install my new digital camera, or new CruzerFreedom flashdrive…and there are some unfamiliar programs/applications that i can’t uninstall…
fourth…my ‘hosts’ file is about 280 kb too large!
fifth…i can’t access the ‘System Information’ application from Accessories…it refuses to open….
SOOOO……as you can see, i’ve resigned myself to the fact that the severe infection resulted in the loss of my administrator rights…my question now is can i get them back without reimaging the system?
i don’t think so, but i wanted to know what y’alls experience with this is…
so what do y’all recommend i do…?
thanks in advance for any suggestions…
