I’ve got XPproSP2. I had a SATA hd that failed on me so I temporarily installed a PATA hd using the ribbon that was attached to my DVD rom so I could boot up and find out what was wrong with the SATA.
Now, I’ve finally purchased a new SATA, installed it with no problem, imaged the PATA drive to the new SATA drive and took the old PATA out.
I’m thinking, yea! I’ll have my DVD/CD burner back. NADA! It doesn’t show up in Device Manager, Bios or anywhere. My CD rom shows up but the burner doesn’t. I’ve got the ribbon and cable hooked up correctly (heck there’s only one way to do it, I think).
I’m a newbie when it comes to attaching everything. This was even my first time imaging a hard drive and partitioning, etc.
After I attached the ribbon and cable back to the DVD drive, it opened up, so I know it, at least, works physically. And, before all this crappola happened with my hard drive, I had no problem with it.
