Lost Excel file

Windows 98, Office 2000. While editing a spreadsheet in Excel, I got a message that the file was ‘locked’, but there is no password or protection, the hidden and read only attributes are off. Now I cant open the file, but in Windows explorer the file is shown as 137 KB. When I open the file it shows as blank. When I copy it to a floppy, it takes the right amount of time to copy a file, and I can reload from the floppy, but it is blank. I tried to load from the temporary folder, but no luck. Help!
