I have run into a problem with Windows Server 2003. This server acts as the DHCP server and DNS server. While trying to install a VPN through Routing and Remote Access the network stopped when the settings for remote access were turned on and the service enabled. The DHCP settings in remote access had to be reset to the correct IP address. We had to restart the server.
When it came back up it was found that the server doesn?t show up in the Active Directory. The network seems to work correctly. Everyone who was connected before this happened, is still connected. If I use a computer on the network and go into Windows Explorer or My Network Places, I can find any drives that have been mapped. If I go to My Network Places\Entire Network\Microsoft Windows Network\
If I use Remote Desktop or am at the console of the server itself, and open Windows Explorer and go to My Network Places\Entire Network\Microsoft Windows Network\
It seems that the server has been removed from Active Directory somehow. I haven?t been able to find any information on how to fix this. I could try any number of things, but I can?t take the chance of bringing the whole network down while people are working. We do a lot of CAD work and all of our drawings are on server.
I would appreciate any help at all.
