lost my initial login screen

I have a pc on my netware lan that when booted goes straight to the desktop with out first being prompted for a ms or nw login. thus the user has no access to the network. if I go to the start menu and enter “log off” the pc then comes back with thelogin screen with a users name already enterd and a prompt for password like it should have done the first time. and every things fine. How can I fix this initial missing logon screen. does it have to do with a missing default user profile?
