I have a computer running windows 2000 pro that is not connected to a network. Several months ago I turned on the EFS file encryption for My Documents. Today I noticed that I was using the built-in Administrator account for everyday use. I decided to create another account to use for everyday use. In the process of setting up the new account, copying profiles, and renaming both the accounts, I have lost the private key that goes with the file recovery certificate. I had not exported this to a safe place! I have made regular backups of my Documents and the system state, and have an ERD. I have tried several things, but always get an error message saying that I do not have access to the files. I can see the filenames listed in explorer, but cannot open them. Can anyone help me get access to these files?
