Lost Network

by jjclark . Updated 23 years, 8 months ago

I have a small p2p network (10 machines)running Win98se. I’m using a Linksys router for Inet/Firewall/DHCP. All the machines have been happy until recently. In the past 2 weeks, I’ve had 2 seperate machines stop “seeing” the network. They can send/receive email, however that’s about it. They can not browse the web. I get the message “website found, waiting for reply” however it times out after that.

Also, I can no longer see any computers in network neighborhood…however, I can see the failed machines from other computers and even read/write to their shared drives.

I can ping other machines on the network and ping IP address and domain names from the command line.

I’ve run a virus check.
I’ve reinstalled the network drivers.
I’ve moved the machines to another network with another router.
I’ve reinstalled Windows.
Now I can’t bind my protocals to the adapter (however other machines can still see it)

I’ve also had a machine on a completely different network begin to show the same symptoms.

Things seem to be getting worse every day. Either the network cards all have a suicide pact or something really wacky is going on here. I’m fearing the other machines are soon going to catch on to this “sick out” and stop work too. Any suggestions?

Thanks!
