lost partial hard drive?

Hi everyone,was wondering if someone could help me out? I removed XP off an 80gig hard drive and when I reinstalled it I’m only getting 30gig? I’ve tried everything! Call me stupid, I’ve gotten really rusty since college as I haven’t been working with PC’s.(Guess it’s a good job I haven’t!)
