lost password

Hello, an employee of a friend of mine was fired and conveniently has forgotten the password for a program on her PC. It is a win 95 os. How can I help him locate the pw for this program? I have complete access to the rest of the system, just dont know where or what to look for. Also, I have heard of password cracking software but I am uneasy about using this on their system unless there is a reliable one someone has used. I am still a student of IT and I am unfamiliar with this subject. Thank you very much for any help given.
