Lost Power-on password: Compaq Prosignia

I am currently using an older Compaq Prosignia laptop that still runs Windows 98. My new laptop crashed, and I can’t afford a new one just yet. Unfortunately, I haven’t even turned it on in years. I can’t remember the password. I can’t get anywhere. It won’t boot from a CD. I have a black screen with a blue box that says Power-On Password and a picture of a key. I don’t know how to take it apart and reset the battery/jumper thing. Can one of the experts here help me please?
