Lost volume control!

I seem to have lost the Windows volume control. When I go into sounds and audio devices it does not allow me to to go to the advanced tab and a warning comes up saying that i need to install the volume control from add/remove programs. The thing is when i go into add/remove proagrams there is no volume control to install. Please help!
