Lost windows error sounds and icon

I updated my windows thru windows updates since then got no window sounds only media player i have on board audio i have checked in device manager unistalled all drives the reinstalled all drivers same with motherboard cd installed windows sp2 i have read many threads and checked everything the have posted still no joy any help PLEASE
