Lost Word/IE Settings

we are running an NT4 network with around 150 95/98 client machines. we are currently experiencing problems with registry changes on login, which means that the users word and internet explorer setting are being lost. this seems to be inconsistantthough as some users have the problem every day and others every now and then and some not at all. this has also only happend recently within the last 2 weeks, any ideas
