Lost XP Network Connection Folder

I seem to have lost everything that would normally appear in the Win-XP Network Connections folder. That would be the protocol stacks, bridges, devices, etc. My network interface still works but I can’t modify settings or troubleshoot problems, etc. All I see is an empty pane. I’m running SP2 and have been having several problems lately.

Is there any way to restore/repair the Network Connections folder, short of reinstalling XP? I am prepared to edit the Registry if necessary. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
