machine goes through post then nothing, no XP Pro splash screen

I have a machine here that was working fine last night and now has problems. It is running XP Pro and when I try to boot it it goes through the post just fine but never makes it to the “windows load screen” the screen goes blank with the flashing curser in the top left corner for a second or two then goes totally blank and sits there forever. I tried to do a recovery but it gets to the the screen saying “Windows Setup” at the top and “Setup is starting Windows” at the bottom and hangs there forever. I am wondering if the drive has died. Any and all info/help would be greatly appreciated.
