I’m not sure if I’m in the right area for this but I sure could use some advice right now.
I am a Home Tech and have quite a few years under my belt but this one is a little difficult and if I do this wrong, I have a friend who loses everything.
My friends brings me his Computer. It’s an ECS Motherboard, with a 900 AMD CPU and 512 PC3200 400 mgz DDR Ram.
The Primary Hard drive is a Western Digital 80 gig.
The Secondary is a Maxtor Diamond Max 20Gb
Problem;
He tried to add the WD on as a Primary while the secondary being a Maxtor requested and overlay. As I understand it, he refused the overlay and used Partition Magic to alter the WD drive capacity.It had been cut into C,D,E & F
Then to top it all off, he over road the Windows XP Pro that I had installed and replaced it with a windows 98 Second Ed.
I told him this was next to impossible based on the altrerations that had been preformed on the drive. However I accepted the task of trying to get this thing back to original working order. I tried FileRestore and it works very well, if you like Chinese,”I love Chinese,I just can’t read it” I couldn’t read this if my life depended on it. And so now I come to my colleagues in hopes that some of you might have suggestions that could help me out , or even better, might be aware of programs that could help me in retreiving this information. I will do what I must, even if I have to wipe it out, reformat it and start all over again, but it would nmean that he will have lost absolutely everything. Wedding Photos, personal info Pictures of People now deceased, etc. This is why I’m going to all this trouble.
