Microsoft Excel 2003 problem

I have a user who has a problem with Excel. When she opens any excel file (by clicking on the icon) it gives her a blank (grey) screen,then to get the file open she has to click on the file pull-down menu and find the file.

Does anyone know how to get the file to automatically open when she clicks the icon?
