Our college uses the most recent version of Exchange server to provide Web access to email through a browser at home. Since the new version of Exchange was installed in November, I’m having problems communicating with electronic discussion lists (and in managing such a list). The servers are probably unix-based, and the problem is that messages or commands sent to the servers seem to come through as garbage (which can be reconstituted into a real message using MIME decoding). The result it that messages posted to the list can appear as garbage and commands sent to the server do not execute. The problem is more severe when the browser used is IE than when it is Netscape. It did not happen before the college upgraded its version of Exchange. I also have a problem with the program attaching a file, winmail.dat to the message, which will then show up in some but not all email programs of recipients of messages.
