I am trying to fix a friends XP machine, it had a virus and she let it go on so long it will boot up to a big white screen, stating Active Desktop is inactive, windows has an error, etc. etc. I asked her to bring it months ago, now I can’t boot to a cd-rom to run any virus scan, even though I changed the bios to start that way, the Logitech wired nor wireless mouse won’t work. I even tried to find the XP recovery program, but I think that’s corrupted also. Is there any other way other than to just reinstall XP? it’s a Dell 2400, Logitech LX5 mouse, I 4got to write down the bios version.
I did get into the F8 mode, tried safe but it gives me the login page and with no mouse that’s useless also. the option 5 to run diagnostics found a bad sector way up near the top of the run, but only one. I’m about to give this thing back. any ideas folks? thank you
