Most common jdk Installation error

“‘javac’ not recognized”. I know that windows is not seeing the compiler. It downloads the jre6 in the java dir(no jdk). I need the path to re C:\program files\java\jdk\bin but it reads java\jre6\bin. What’s wrong? Java.com verifies that the recommended version of the JDK is installed.
