This system has been working without issue for more than three years. This morning when I turned it on I got nothing. I traced the problem to the PSU. I had a spare Antec TPQ-850 PSU so I switched it out and now the system will only boot with one of the HDs disconnected.
The system fails POST with one of the 3 drives connected. I have 2 250 GB WD in RAID 0 and a 250 GB Seagate. I use the RAID 0 Array as my primary drive and they are fine, however, when the Seagate SATA drive power connector is connected the MB/PSU fails POST, if I disconnect the power connector on the Seagate everything is fine. The Seagate is about 2 years old and the PSU 1 year old.
So my question is: Is there a short in the drive of some kind or …?
Well today I tested the drive on an old Dell with a Molex to SATA power connector and I got the same result. To check, I put a DVM over the power connectors and I found a short to ground on the 12v lines. Any ideas as to why this should happen? The drive is on it’s way back to Seagate.
