MS WORD seems to be lost

I have a Gateway Pentlll w/Intel Celeron Processor.
1)Under Start;Programs, Word 98 seems to have disappeared. I did finally find a “shortcut” Icon in my Sharkware program but when I try to open it I get an error message.
2)Also I can’t get my MS Explorer to open, I get the error message again. I have rebooted and run scan disk.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
