I have 4 machines on my home peer-to-peer network with 1 machine acting as a file server used only for backup purposes. All machines are presently using 98SE. These machines are connected to a 3com 3C510 gateway, which has a firewall, and is connected to my high-speed dsl modem. I am also using Zone Alarm Pro on each machine.
I have been unable to send files and photos to other people I connect to with MSN Messenger since setting this up, or even other machines on my network. I can still receive files that people send from outside my network but every time I try to send something it is blocked. I have shutdown Zone Alarm on 2 machines and tried to send a file and gotten the same results.
Since the problem doesn?t seem to be relatedto Zone Alarm it must be that a port has to be opened in the gateway but I?m not sure which one and if any other changes have to be made. The options I have are:
Client Privileges:
Allow or block
(Presets listed – all supposed to be enabled)
E-mail (110,25), Internet (80), FTP (21), News (119)
Special Access:
ID, Trigger, Incoming Ports, Enable
(Presets listed but not active)
AUTH (113), DNS (53), FTP (21), ISAKMP (500), POP3 (110), PPTP (1723), SMTP (25), TELNET (23), and WEB (80).
And
Virtual Server
ID, Service Port, Server IP, Enable,
(Presets listed ? Ports 20 and 21 active for 1 machine)
AUTH (113), DNS (53), FTP (21), ISAKMP (500), POP3 (110), PPTP (1723), SMTP (25), TELNET (23), and WEB (80).
Can anyone explain what ports to unblock and any other changes that need to be made?
