need help!

is it normal if you have a labtop on for to long it will move very slowly?
i know if it gets to hot it will cut off … but after a while does it start going slow while cooling off?
i have a saftey thing on there where i wont get any viruses .. will that supposally slow it down as well? it mainly happens after a little over a hour or so on the labtop
