Needed: Most efficient way to separate a ?public? network area from private

by jefeolson . Updated 20 years, 5 months ago

I?m working as the only IT person for a small college, about 150 students and 30 staff, we are soon going to expand facilities accommodate 300 students and more staff.

Up until now I have only had to worry about my 30 staff users, not too hard, running AD and have things humming smoothly, more staff is not a problem.

The problem is the students. They are now going to have internet access. I?m looking for the most efficient way to create the dorms as their own separate ?public? network and hide my staff network from them. I have a few ideas, but more heads are better than one, I will admit I am a bit out of element at time, but manage nicely. 🙂 I have an small budget

I already have a plan in place for a couple of computer labs we’re adding, but since the students computers don’t fall under my jurisdiction it is a bit of a head scratcher.
