networking — ad hoc

by ksmith . Updated 19 years, 2 months ago

My boss recently talked to me about what the best way being able to set up a small network of computers quickly and easily in an undisclosed location would be.

He wants to be able to send and receive a small amount of information between 5 to 6 computers when they’re out of the office and not necessarily in a location that has a connection. He also asked if Bluetooth would be an option, as he would like to do it wirelessly if possible.

Currently I am trying to decide whether he should try to set up an ad hoc connection via bluetooth or WiFi. I have done some research and as far as I can tell there is very little security when it comes to using the WiFi option, but the Bluetooth also has a few security flaws (Bluesnarfing…).

Also the most of the information I have found for Bluetooth is specifically for Phone to PC or vice versa, but seems very possible for PC to PC.

I am leaning towards Bluetooth as it seems very easy to set up and it looks secure to a point. I also know that the wave distance is very short, so that helps its security as well.

Anyone have any experience with setting up an Ad Hoc network? What do you recommend? What is easiest?
