no internet connection via USB port replicator

I’m connecting my laptop to a USB port replicator and can get the keyboard, mouse, and monitor to work fine. However, I can not get the internet to connect. If I plug in directly on my laptop I have no problem. When I’m set up on my USB port replicator the network connection doesn’t find a valid IP. I’ve reinstalled the software and drivers several times.
