Norton Ghost 10.0 doesn’t see my external hard drive

When I run the Symantec Recovery Disc, it does not see my external hard drive where my data is backed up. My hard drive is connect via 1394 firewire. Symantec says push F6 during startup to load the necessary drivers. But this only prompts you to insert a floppy disc from the hard drive manufacturer (Maxtor). Unfortunately, my external hard drive did not come with any software. I tried symantec chat support for about an hour but that was totally useless. Can any of you help me. Thanks.
