Hello Everyone,
I have a problem which has boggled my mind and I have run out of Ideas. I currently use my NT 4.0 Backup Domain Controller as my network TCP/IP Print Server, to support all of my HP LaserJet Printers with Jet Direct ports. Yesterday, all of a sudden, about 65% of my network printers lost there port settings. When I go into their port properties, the ports are no longer there. When I go to add a JetDirect port, it errors out and tells me that the name is invalid.(?) If I delete a printer, then reboot the server, it will let me add the printer back, including the port
without a hitch. But if I reset the server again, and go to check the printer which I have just added, it tells me the port does not exist. The freaky thing is, that approximately 25 printers in the network are working fine, and were not effected whatsoever. There is no difference with these
working printers and the others. And if I delete one of the working ones, they pop back in without a problem. I checked for IP conflicts, and found none. I uninstalled the TCP/IP printer service and the RPC configuration, and re-Installed them, but that didn’t help. There is 128 MB of RAM,
plenty of virtual memory, and Hard disk space. If anyone has any idea as to how I can resolve this, I would appreciate any advice given. I have created a new print server to replace the bad one, so I am not currently print serverless, but I would like to find out what caused this, to possibly prevent it from happening again.
Thank you in advance for all help given,
