Nuts and bolts of hosting

by flat0027 . Updated 25 years, 5 months ago

This is a multi-part question on finding the right host:

Is a local provider better? Why?

Is server technology becoming so user-friendly that it’s better to go it alone? This must be answered in the here and now as opposed to options in the future.

I need a full-featured host, one that provides support on all levels, including design support, AND one that will allow me to start small and get big and not get snagged along the way. Any recommendations?

Some services are available for free while others charge for the same services. I need a host that is savvy enough to know that services like domain name registration, payment authorization, guest books, etc., can be had for next to nothing so don’t charge me for it when I can go elsewhere. Can you name a host this savvy?

The ultimate question is, who is the best host and why (assuming you are not hosting yourself)?

What are the best servers?

What are “best” services?

What’s the breakpoint for an enterprise togo from outsourcing to internal?

Is internal hosting the most cost-effective?
