Office 2000 problems under XP

On two separate computers I have had different programs in Office 2000 become inoperative under XP, and I believe it may have followed installation of upgrades. On one computer Word will not work at all – try to load it and get the error message after the splash screen and wants to send error message to Microsoft. On the other computer Outlook has same behavior but Word is still OK. Have tried repair, removal and reinstall and nothing works. Tried running under different user logins and that did not work either.
