I’m in the middle of fixing some computers for a friend, she has two PCs bought at the same time. One has Win XP Home (full copy), the other had Win 98 when bought and they gave her a Win XP Pro Upgrade disc with it. She didn’t bother loading the upgrade at the time. Now she wants it done, but she wants the XP Home upgraded to XP pro and the Win 98 to the XP Home as the machine currently with XP Home is a faster CPU with more RAM. Both machines are well over the minimum for XP.
Being a good boy, I’m upgrading the XP Home to the XP Pro so I won’t violate the licence terms and have it on two machines at once.
Guess what, the Win XP Pro Upgrade disc doesn’t recognise Win XP Home as a valid version of MS Windows and asks me to present my disc copy of Win 95/98, Win ME, or Win2000 before it will proceed.
Luckily, I have a copy of Win2000 Pro that’s not installed at the moment, put that in and away it goes.
But I like the concept, Win XP Pro doesn’t recognise Win XP Home as a valid version of Windows. Need anyone say anything more about XP Home. :p
