OPEN / SAVE commands inMicrosoft office not functioning

Hoping theres and easy fix- OPEN / SAVE commands in Microsoft office office programs not functioning after I removed some spy /adware. The error message is : AN ERROR OCCURED THIS FUNCTION IS NO LONGER WORKING PROPERLY – DO YOU WANT TO FIX IT. If I choose cancel , it will then proceed to work as usual.

I dont have easy access to the installation software as our contracted IT people have it. Is there an easy tweak of the registry or other files that could repair this without having to reinstall or access installation disks.
