open word documents without word

Hello all,

I have only an old word processor but have, on occasion, a reason to open and pritt Microsoft Word and Excel documents. My software won’t open them and wordpad looks like garbage. Is there a way I can at least open and print them? I have no need to edit them in any way just look at the.
